Brett Gilbert’s practice focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and asset and project finance transactions.

    In the M&A sphere, Brett has helped large Japanese corporations and trading companies across a wide range of sectors in their overseas acquisition and investment endeavors.

    In the asset finance sector, Brett has advised export credit agencies, lenders, leasing firms and airlines in a variety of transactions, including leveraged aircraft leases, portfolio sales, collateral foreclosures and general equipment financings.

    In the project finance sphere, Brett has advised lenders, sponsors and export credit agencies in connection with energy, oil and gas and mining projects in a variety of global regions.

    Brett completed a legal secondment at a Japanese state-owned financial institution and at a top-tier Japanese trading company.

    Before joining us in Tokyo, Brett worked in the Tokyo and Los Angeles offices of two other leading international law firms.

    Brett has lived in Japan for 22 years and is fluent in both written and spoken Japanese. Brett previously taught Japanese at the university level and was a Stone Scholar at the University of Minnesota Law School.

    Brett is a member of the Dai-Ichi Tokyo Bar Association.
