David Harford is an associate in the Labour & Employment team based in our Leeds office.

    David advises national and international employers and senior executives in a variety of sectors on contentious and non-contentious employment law at all stages of the employment lifecycle.

    David has particular expertise in non-contentious advisory work, with a focus on employee relations and HR issues, including advising on disciplinary and grievance procedures, tackling capability issues and managing sickness absence. In addition, David regularly advises senior employees and employers on employment contracts and settlement agreements.

    David has considerable litigation experience, having successfully represented clients in discrimination, unfair dismissal and whistleblowing claims. David also deals with the employment aspects of corporate transactions and business restructures.

    David provides training workshops and presentations to clients on all aspects of employment law.

    David is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

    • Undertaking an eight-month secondment to the Employee Relations and HR Policy team at a large UK bank. Whilst on secondment, David provided strategic support and practical and solution-orientated advice on day-to-day employee relations and employment law issues as well as industrial relations and trade union matters.
    • Successfully defending and supporting clients through complex and high-value discrimination, unfair dismissal and whistleblowing claims in the Employment Tribunal, including representing clients at Preliminary Hearings.
    • Regularly providing on the spot commercial advice to HR professionals and employers on disciplinary, grievance, performance, sickness absence and ill-health issues.
    • Advising on senior management and executive appointments and exits and negotiating the terms of service agreements and settlement agreements.
    • Drafting employment contracts, consultancy agreements, secondment agreements, employment handbooks and HR policies and procedures.
    • Carrying out due diligence exercises on share and business acquisitions and drafting associated employment documentation.
    • Assisting clients with business reorganisations and providing advice on individual and collective redundancies.
