Sushma Maharaj is a director in the firm's Energy & Natural Resources team with over 17 years’ experience of advising a full range of clients including project sponsors, corporations, financial institutions, governments and regulatory bodies on projects across a range of industry sectors including, power, infrastructure and oil and gas. 

    Her experience includes advising on foreign and domestic regulatory and licensing regimes, concession agreements, implementation agreements, framework agreements, operating agreements, connection agreements, services agreements, energy efficiency agreements, transportation agreements, supply agreements (including coal, gas and heat supply agreements) and offtake agreements. Her experience also includes a nine month secondment to the gas and electricity regulator in Northern Ireland (OFREG), a three month secondment to British Energy, Gloucester, United Kingdom and a seven month secondment to Smartest Energy, London.

    • Advising Smartest Energy Limited including  day to day advice to the commercial and legal teams on a range of issues, e.g. trading contracts, IT contracts, services contracts, electricity supply contracts between Smartest and its customers, power purchase agreements between Smartest and generators from which it purchases power and also on a range of electricity regulatory and licence issues and advising on renewable incentive schemes including the UK Renewables Obligation scheme and Feed In Tariff Scheme.
    • Advising Macquarie in relation to the acquisition of several power stations in the UK.
    • Advising Macquarie in relation to the development of greenfield power stations in the UK.
    • Advising Gravis Capital Partners in relation to bankability of power purchase agreement in relation to biomass power plant to be designed, constructed, developed, financed and operated by Birmingham Bio Power Limited at Tysley in Birmingham.
    • Advising a Chinese entity on the acquisition of nuclear assets in the UK.
    • Advising Nabucco Gas Pipeline International Gmbh in relation to the Nabucco pipeline project including advising in relation to the network code, standard transportation agreement with gas shippers, pipeline lease agreements and various services agreements.
