Afshan Mallik has a wide range of experience advising on day-to-day pensions matters and projects. She has worked closely with trustees and employers of pension schemes, including in relation to trustees’ discretionary powers, scheme governance and disclosure duties, cross-border investment reviews, and buy-outs and buy-ins, as well as producing benefit specifications, scheme sectionalisation, equalisation, benefit transfers and commutation, liability management exercises (including pensionable pay caps and wind-up), pensions tax queries and member complaints to The Pensions Ombudsman.

    Afshan also has a range of experience advising on all aspects of national and multinational corporate transactions and restructurings, including The Pension Regulator’s powers, TUPE and employer auto-enrolment obligations.

    • Advising on the sectionalisation of a multi-employer defined benefit (DB) scheme, including Crown guarantees.
    • Advising international investors on the proposed corporate restructuring of a leading high street retailer.
    • Advising the trustees of the British Tourist Boards' Staff Pension and Life Assurance Scheme on day-to-day queries, including rule interpretation, member communications and trustees’ disclosure duties.
    • Advising the trustees of DB schemes sponsored by the CNH Industrial and Fiat groups on day-to-day pension matters, rule interpretation, member complaints and communications, and complex projects.
    • Advising trustees of multimillion-pound pension funds on day-to-day benefits queries, including rule interpretation, amendments and benefit entitlements.
    • Secondment to the professional secretariat of the BT Pension Scheme, advising on complex benefit queries and member complaints.
    • Advising the trustee of a plan sponsored by a large automotive manufacturer in relation to rule interpretation and member complaints.
