Emma Mason


Emma Mason is an associate in the Sports & Entertainment team in London, part of our global Litigation Practice Group.

Emma’s work involves providing advice to a number of leading sports clubs and national and international federations on a range of commercial and regulatory issues. Emma has a particular interest in sports governance and has experience of assisting with The FA Rule K arbitration proceedings and with proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Emma is also a former international badminton player, having represented Scotland at European, Commonwealth and World Championship level. Emma retired from international duty in 2011, but continued to work regularly within the industry as both Chair of the Athletes’ Commission and Council Member of the World Badminton Federation (each until 2015). Emma is currently a Director of Badminton Europe and sits on the Disciplinary Panel of British Showjumping, together with the Audit and Governance Committee of British Triathlon.


  • Providing regulatory and commercial advice to a national federation in respect of good governance.
  • Providing regulatory advice to an international federation in relation to its Olympic Qualification Regulations.
  • Making a number of applications for governing body endorsements for a leading Premier League club during transfer deadline day.
  • Undertook an eight-month secondment to a leading Premier League club, providing assistance on a range of commercial, regulatory and contentious matters.
  • Assisting with the sale of a leading English Football League football club.
