    Isabella’s career highlights to date include a secondment to the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, assisting with state government reform of the WA Planning System in 2018, participating in the Property Council 500 Women in Property initiative since 2019 and her appointment as a member of the Property Council of Australia Planning Committee WA for 2021/2022.

    Planning and Development

    • Instructing lawyer in SAT proceedings involving a change of use application under Armadale Redevelopment Scheme and proceedings defending a refusal issued by local government for a proposed development that was not compliant with its activity centre plan.
    • Assisting with the representation of Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group Pty Limited (ALH Group) in SAT proceedings regarding development approval for the Como Hotel.
    • Assisting with the preparation of strategic and practical advice on a variety of issues arising under the Planning and Development Act 2005 (WA), including the applicability of the deemed-to-comply provisions on the R-codes, land zoning and height restrictions within the Canning Bridge Activity Centre and City of South Perth.
    • Assisting in Supreme Court proceedings to challenge the approval of a residential development in South Perth that did not comply with scheme requirements.
    • Assisting in a Supreme Court and Court of Appeal challenge to a development approval for a secondary shopping precinct in Busselton.
    • Assisting to prepare law reform and policy submissions on various state planning policies, local government planning schemes and planning instruments.
    • Advising landowners on compulsory acquisition and land compensation under the Land Administration Act 1997 (WA).

    Liquor Licensing

    • Applications for new liquor licences (restaurant, tavern, special facility and ETP).
    • Applications to the Director of Liquor Licensing for alteration/redefinition of ETP (Alfresco Area) at the Brass Monkey and the Belgian Beer Café on behalf of ALH Group involving submissions in response to intervention applications and third-party objections.
    • Assisting ALH Group in navigating various licensing and local authority approvals required to vary the Como Hotel liquor licence and transformation of the BWS liquor store to a Dan Murphy’s outlet.
    • Instructing lawyer in the reconsideration of application before the Liquor Commission for alteration/redefinition of liquor licence at the Leisure Inn, Rockingham.
    • Assisting with the application for approval of Dan Murphy’s in Darwin, involving 17 third-party objections and proceedings in the Northern Territory Liquor Commission and Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

    Litigation (General Commercial)

    • Instructing lawyer in Court of Appeal proceedings regarding costs assessment.
    • Assisting with conferral in anticipation of application for costs assessment of invoices issued by a law practice.
    • Assisting with a large-scale discovery in the Northern Territory Supreme Court.

    Environment, Mining and Contaminated Land

    • Assisting with the preparation of strategic advice and submissions in respect to the classification and reporting of contaminated sites, under the Contaminated Sites Act 2003 (WA) and compliance and regulation of fisheries under the Environmental Protection Biodiversity and Conservation Act 1999 (Cth).
    • Undertaking due diligence enquiries in respect to contamination and outstanding environmental liabilities.
    • Transfer of mining tenements, water licences and associated environmental approvals for mining operations in the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
    • Assisting with advice as to access agreements for various mining and petroleum companies in Western Australia.

    Local Government and Regulatory (General)

    • Assisting with advice to the Town of Cambridge in respect of the Department of Local Government’s authorised inquiry.
    • Supreme Court application made by Town of Cambridge against Local Government Minister David Templeman to prevent the Minister suspending the Town’s Council.
    • Provision of advice to local governments on issues including land acquisition, liquor licensing, noise nuisance, declaration of members’ interests, interpretation of powers under constitution and drafting of local laws.
    • Instructing lawyer in Supreme Court proceedings on behalf of local residents to challenge the incorrect procedure followed by a local government to dispose of its land under a long lease arrangement.
    • Assisting with the preparation of strategic and practical advice in relation to product and food labelling requirements, sanctions regimes, anti-bribery and corruption obligations in the Australian ticket resale market.

    Real Estate

    • Undertaking due diligence enquiries, drafting and negotiating sale contracts for the acquisition of agricultural and industrial land in Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
    • Assisting M Group on development and lease back projects with hotel operator Quest Apartment Hotels.
    • Assisting with advice in respect to adverse possession claims and obligations, rights, entitlements and disputes under commercial contracts and leases.
    • Applications to the Foreign Investment Review Board for approval to acquire residential and commercial land.
    • Assisting with advice regarding the redevelopment of aviation and commercial precincts and commercial and industrial agreements for leases, licences and access easements on land subject to the Airports Act 1996 (Cth).

    Commercial (General) and Data Privacy

    • Assisting ASIC in an investigation into the potential prosecution of an individual under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
    • Drafting various commercial agreements (including sale, supply, distribution and website terms and conditions) and whistleblower policies.
    • Assisting with advice to retailers on their obligations under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).
    • Assisting with training on the notifiable data breaches scheme and EU GDPR.
    • Drafting of privacy policies, notices and information security policies.
