Dennis Murphy is an associate in our Litigation Practice. Dennis focuses his practice on complex commercial and class action litigation, representing clients in both federal and state courts.

    Dennis has extensive experience defending automotive, retail, and consumer product and food manufacturer (among other) clients against unfair competition and consumer fraud claims. He also counsels clients on antitrust and unfair competition, securities, products liability and other matters. His experience extends to all aspects of litigation, including pleading attacks, discovery and related motion practice, class certification and summary judgment motions, and trial.

    Dennis is a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco, the American Bar Association and The Olympic Club.

    Prior to joining the firm, Dennis was a litigation associate for an international law firm and served as a judicial extern for the Honorable A. James Robertson, II of the Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco.

    • Defended automotive manufacturer clients through class certification, expert discovery and summary judgment phases of litigation.
    • Defeated putative nationwide class allegations demonstrating material differences in consumer protection, fraud and unjust enrichment laws of different states for consumer product manufacturer client.
    • Obtained complete defense verdict and sat third chair for two-week trial for alleged violations of California’s Proposition 65 chemical warning statute against product manufacturer client.
    • Secured dismissal of contempt charge against retail client for alleged violation of prior court-approved consent judgment.
    • Prepared multiple successful motions to seal automotive manufacturer client’s trade secret, warranty data, and other confidential business information despite vigorous opposition from plaintiffs to make material public.
    • Negotiated withdrawal of plaintiff’s pre-suit notice of violation letter where product manufacturer and retail store clients were exempt under state statute.
