Tim O'Shannassy is an Australian-qualified associate in the International Dispute Resolution Practice Group, specialising in providing advice on major construction, oil and gas and infrastructure projects.

    He has comprehensive experience in international arbitration, having acted for a diverse range of clients before numerous courts and tribunals under the rules of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC).

    Tim provides strategic, commercially focussed advice and representation on various issues, including claims and contractual entitlements.

    • Representing a large Chinese subcontractor in a dispute with the Spanish head contractor arising out of an equipment supply contract for the multibillion-dollar Roy Hill iron ore project. The arbitration was seated in Singapore and administered by SIAC under UNCITRAL Rules.
    • Instructing senior counsel and advising a Chinese subcontractor in enforcement proceedings in the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
    • Advising a JV of three global engineering, procurement and construction companies in an arbitration under ICC Rules in Singapore with sums in dispute exceeding US$4.5 billion.
    • Advising an international contractor in a dispute with its consortium partner arising out of the Cryogenic Tanks package on the Onshore Ichthys LNG Facilities Project. The arbitration was seated in Singapore and administered under ICC Rules.
    • Representing a mining concern in prosecuting breach of contract claims for US$911 million arising out of the development and construction of an underground mine and mineral processing facility. The arbitration is seated in Stockholm and administered by the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC).
    • Representing clients involved in litigious construction disputes in the Federal Court of Australia and the superior courts of Western Australia.
    • Coordinating and assisting with the large-scale disclosure procedure in several arbitrations arising out of complex infrastructure projects.
    • Providing strategic and commercial advice to principals, contractors and subcontractors in relation to obligations, rights, entitlements and disputes under commercial and construction contracts.
    • Advising clients involved in mediation proceedings facilitated by the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
    • Advising clients engaged in adjudication proceedings under the Construction Contracts Act 2004 (WA).
