Jonathan Riley is an associate in the Litigation Practice Group and has acted for both national and international clients in a range of corporate and commercial disputes. He has experience in a number of industry sectors, including energy and resources, projects, manufacturing and financial services.

    Jonathan provides advice and assists with contentious matters and on all aspects of legislative and regulatory compliance. He has particular expertise in corporate and personal insolvency, competition and consumer law, contractual disputes, statutory demand-related matters and issues arising under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).

    Jonathan has acted in matters heard by various courts and tribunals and has appeared in both state and federal courts.

    • Advising and assisting a manufacturer in an appeal against amendments to its operating licence and in a separate application for judicial review of the outcome of that appeal.
    • Advising a resource exploration and production company in relation to numerous debt recovery claims, statutory demands and winding up applications brought by creditors in the Supreme and Federal Courts.
    • Assisting a Singaporean Casino with bankruptcy proceedings brought against a “high roller” in relation to a gambling debt.
    • Advising a company constituted in the UK on privacy and data protection issues arising out of the introduction of an online tracing tool to the Australian market.
    • Assisting counsel in relation to a number of claims arising out of insolvency proceedings brought by foreign creditors against a domestic client.
    • Advising and assisting on various issues arising under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) in relation to a shareholder dispute.
    • Advising and assisting on a dispute arising over security interests held over a number of mining tenements and the sale by receiver over a number of assets.
    • Provided advice to a manufacturer in relation to product liability arising under the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth), the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) and the Fair Trading Act 2010 (WA).
