Kate Sambrook is a senior associate in the Restructuring & Insolvency Practice, with more than eight years’ experience in superior and appellate court litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes.

    Kate’s practice includes a broad range of corporate and commercial litigation matters including commercial and securities litigation, restructuring, insolvency and debt recovery, class actions, defamation, civil contempt, large-scale property disputes, franchising, estate litigation, general contractual disputes, negligence and corporations and regulatory disputes.

    • Acting on behalf of a financial services institution in defence of a securities class action brought by a group of investors alleging misleading and deceptive conduct and market manipulation, including successfully bringing a Part 4A application under the Federal Court Act 1976 that such proceedings no longer continue as representative proceedings.
    • Acting on behalf of a financial services institution and its brokers in the successful defence of Federal Court of Australia proceedings brought by investors in Cascade Coal Pty Ltd relating to the 2012 high-profile ICAC public inquiry into an exploration licence granted at the Obeid family farm at Mount Penny in the NSW Bylong Valley.
    • Acting on behalf of directors, liquidators, receivers and administrators in insolvency litigation including both substantive proceedings for insolvent trading, voidable transactions, breach of directors duties, voluntary and court ordered winding up and administration, and as well as Supreme Court applications for public examinations of directors pursuant to sections 596A and 596B of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
    • Acting for a multimillion-dollar international movie production studio and its CEO in Federal Court of Australia defamation proceedings and Australian Consumer Law proceedings, and subsequently civil contempt of court.
