Maciej Szwedowski focuses his practice on litigation and arbitration, as well as on energy law, insolvency and corporate issues. He represents corporate clients in court and arbitration proceedings, including in relation to disputes arising as part of energy projects, as well as other commercial and in securities-related litigation.

He is also involved in insolvency and corporate restructuring matters.

Maciej also advises clients in relation to energy-related projects (including renewable energy), and has acted as counsel in numerous merger and acquisition transactions in Poland and abroad. He has significant experience in assisting Italy- and Spain-based clients operating on the Polish market.

Prior to joining Squire Patton Boggs, Maciej was a senior associate in the Warsaw office of an international law firm.


  • Representing one of the largest Polish infrastructure investors in disputes with former advisers over services rendered to the client in connection with the construction and operation of the motorway.
  • Representing one of the largest Polish renewable energy investors and developers in a series of disputes with the State Treasury over the financing of wind and biogas projects, as well as and in disputes with Polish utilities over the unlawful termination of agreements on the sale of electricity and property rights from the certificates of origin.
  • Representing American, Spanish and Polish renewable energy investors in a series of disputes with Polish utilities over the termination of long-term offtake agreements concerning energy and certificates of origin (“green certificates”).
  • Representation of energy producers in disputes over the interconnection to the power grid network.
  • Representation of a Spanish renewable energy producer in a dispute over the terms of acquiring rights to a wind power project in northern Poland.
  • Representation of a Ukrainian entrepreneur in litigation over rights to exploit natural gas deposits in Poland.
  • Representation of an international arms company in connection with a dispute with the State Treasury over the performance of an offset agreement.
  • Representation of a Czech construction company in disputes with a Polish investor over the execution of a contract for the design of a railway line.
  • Representation of a US power company in a dispute over the execution of a contract for the expansion of a CHP plant.
  • Representing a Canadian investor in relation to the acquisition of rights in wind park projects in southeastern Poland.
  • Advising on a major Spanish renewable energy development in relation to the acquisition and operation of wind park projects in Poland.
  • Representing a Polish-US renewable energy consortium in relation to the acquisition of rights to a wind part project in northern Poland.
  • Representing a major Polish renewable energy investor in disputes with Polish state authorities in relation to the financing of wind energy and biomass projects.
  • Representing a CEE natural resources and energy group in disputes related to the control over Polish assets.
  • Representing one of the world`s biggest insurance groups in an asset acquisition including obtaining the approval of the Polish regulator for the acquisition.
  • Representing a consortium of lenders in relation to the cross-border insolvency of a major European furniture manufacturer.
  • Representing one of the top UK insurance companies in claims related to a disaster at one of Poland’s largest power plants.
  • Representing a firm of Polish insurance brokers in debt-recovery proceedings against a major US-owned insurance firm.
