Sarah is a senior associate in the Labour & Employment team in our Leeds office.

    Sarah's contentious experience involves defending a range of Employment Tribunal claims including unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal and various types of discrimination.

    Sarah's noncontentious practice extends to advising on disciplinary matters, redundancy procedures, managing sickness and absence management and tackling capability issues. Sarah also regularly reviews and drafts contracts of employment, staff handbooks and settlement agreements (for both employees and senior executives).

    Sarah has provided training workshops and presentations to clients and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

    • Undertaking a six-month secondment to the legal employment team at a global retail bank. In that role, Sarah provided decisive guidance to stakeholders and the HR/ER population on how the business could best achieve its commercial aims, balancing legal and financial risks appropriately in each case. 
    • Successfully defending a claim under the Fixed Term Worker (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2002.
    • Assisting with the defence of EAT and Court of Appeal proceedings relating to a series of employment tribunal claims for race discrimination and victimisation.
    • Advising a client in the chemical industry in relation to two separate re-structuring projects including providing advice in relation to collective consultation, the election of employee representatives and TUPE, together with the preparation of template documents and action plans.
    • Advising a national hotel chain in relation to implementing changes to terms and conditions of employment.
    • Assisting a financial services client with a complex disability discrimination grievance and a related disciplinary procedure which involved confidential and commercially sensitive issues.
    • Undertaking due diligence, drafting warranties and providing advice in relation to material issues as part of corporate share transactions.
