Michael Zamecnik is an associate in the Energy & Natural Resources Practice Group based in the London office.

    His practice focuses on energy projects and infrastructure, with experience advising developers, sponsors, funds, project companies and lenders on acquisitions, disposals, financings and commercial agreements for international infrastructure projects with a primary focus on upstream oil and gas and power (conventional and renewable).

    Michael also has experience with advising governments on energy policy, procurement and regulatory matters, including spending five months on secondment to the Regulatory Authority of Bermuda.

    • Advising a consortium of independent exploration and production companies on the prospective acquisition of a leading international oil company’s entire offshore portfolio in the Republic of Ghana.
    • Advising an independent oil and gas company on the acquisition of offshore oil field participating interests from a leading African petrochemicals conglomerate in the Republic of Gabon.
    • Advising an international energy conglomerate on the disposal of a 1,290 MW CCGT thermal power asset and associated battery storage facility in the UK.
    • Advising Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets on certain equity, financing/refinancing and commercial aspects regarding the ongoing operation of the Baglan Bay, Sutton Bridge and Severn CCGT power stations in the UK.
    • Advising Calon Energy on its proposed 2,200 MW portfolio sale of CCGT natural gas power plants at Baglan Bay, Sutton Bridge and Severn in the UK.
    • Advising Calon Energy on various queries in relation to key commercial and operation contracts, including ISDA Agreements, Master Netting Agreements and Energy Management Services Agreements.
    • Advising a renewable energy investment fund on the development and financing of the 50 MW Chania onshore wind farm in Kenya, including the provision of debt finance from a consortium of commercial lenders.
    • Advising a consortium of infrastructure investment funds as sponsors on a government-backed PPP social infrastructure project in Saudi Arabia.
    • Advising an international energy conglomerate on the 49.9% equity sale of its portfolio of nuclear generation assets across the UK.
    • Advising a Middle Eastern national nuclear regulatory body on the provision of regulatory matters, legislative drafting and penal codes with regard to its developing nuclear energy sector.
    • Advising a South American government on a pre-costs audit of petroleum exploration and development expenses incurred by a contractor consortium of major international oil and gas corporations.
    • Advising the Regulatory Authority of Bermuda on the establishment of various electricity licences in Bermuda and the development of the surrounding legislative and regulatory framework.
