Alexandra Poynter is a partner in our Corporate Practice Group, based in our Birmingham office.

Specialising in infrastructure, Ally advises on private equity investments, M&A transactions and joint ventures across a range of sectors, including water, defence, aerospace, nuclear, digital/cyber, environmental/waste, energy, highways, transport and wider infrastructure.

Ally is also experienced in project delivery and has negotiated complex contracts on behalf of both public and private sector clients, supporting on procurement, outsourcing and contract delivery matters

Experience

Water

  • Advised KKR and senior creditors on proposed investments in Thames Water.*

  • Advised EQT in relation to its acquisition of Yorkshire Water.*

  • Advised Asterion Industrial Partners in relation to its investment in Southern Water.*

  • Advised Ofwat in relation to a number of its direct procurement for customers (DPC) and specified infrastructure projects regulations (SIPR) schemes for new reservoirs, water transfer networks and other major infrastructure upgrades.*

Defence and security

  • Advised on the procurement of a number of major infrastructure projects and high-value, transformational service contracts in the UK defence sector.*

  • Advised on defence contracts in the context of a sale by Bridgepoint of a majority stake in Evac to Altor Equity Partners.*

  • Advised on encryption standards, cybersecurity services and secure hardware contracts.*

Nuclear

  • Advised entities of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority on a range of major projects.*

  • Advised an international bidder in the Great British Nuclear's small modular reactor procurement.*

  • Advised a range of nuclear service providers in relation to regulatory issues in the context of M&A activity.*

Data centres

  • Advised on the acquisition of a stake in a data centre in Slough.*

Transport and electric vehicles (EV)

  • Advised on the refinancing of one of the largest EV charging networks in the UK.*

  • Advised Interogo Holding, through its infrastructure investment fund Inter Infrastructure Capital, on its acquisition of a minority stake in the European parking operator Q-Park.*

  • Advised on the proposed acquisition of a number of vehicle hire companies.*

Waste and environmental

  • Advised on significant variations to multiple waste Private Finance Initiatives (PFIs).*

  • Advised a technology company on its proposal to develop advanced gasification systems to convert nonrecyclable waste and biomass into clean fuel and energy products.*

  • Advised a major aggregates company on commercial agreements and recycling leases.*

Fibre

  • Advised Substantial Group/Netomnia on the merger with Brsk to create the UK's second-largest alternative full-fibre broadband network.*

Other

  • Advised CVC Capital Partners in connection with its acquisition of M Group Services, the UK’s largest provider of essential infrastructure services and solutions, from PAI Partners.*

  • Advised on the acquisition, by EQT and GIC, of a majority stake in Calisen, a leading independent smart metering company in the UK.*

  • Advised on the investment in LeMond Carbon, a low-cost, high-volume carbon fibre manufacturing technology, developed in partnership with Deakin University.*
