About David

David Myers is the head of our planning team and brings more than 16 years’ experience as a planning lawyer.

His work involves acting for a wide variety of clients within the public and private sectors. David is experienced in dealing with all aspects of town and country planning matters, including planning applications, Section 106 agreements, appeals, judicial review and enforcement action. David also advises on compulsory purchase and appropriation, working closely with our highly regarded compulsory purchase compensation team.

David has a particular interest in biodiversity net gain and has been providing advice and support on the same for some time linked to the mandatory implementation under the Environment Act.

Experience

  • Advising an industrial client on multiple judicial review challenges against development that would have the effect of restricting ongoing business operations.
  • Advising a local authority on the compulsory acquisition strategy and process for a major redevelopment and regeneration project with the restoration of a Grade I listed building at its heart, involving a collaboration with a private developer.
  • Providing advice and support to multiple clients, including major housebuilders and conservation charities on their biodiversity net gain strategy.
  • Advising a private developer on all aspects of the planning process and strategy in the acquisition and development of a major film studio.
  • Advising a local authority on its first use of appropriation powers linked to a proposed development scheme.
  • Providing planning support to a major energy supplier in the acquisition of a variety of energy-focused developments, including hydrogen plants, solar and battery storage.
  • Successfully appealing enforcement notices by both written representation and hearings linked to the preservation of both commercial and residential development.
  • Preparing a number of complex section 106 agreements for multi-phased residential development for major housebuilders throughout England and Wales.
