Don Moorehead is a former member of the firm’s Global Board and assists clients in a broad range of tax and business planning matters and in related public policy projects.

In tax and business planning matters, Don concentrates principally on (1) cross-border transactions, including inbound investments into the US by both active businesses and passive institutional investors and structuring of the international operations of businesses based in the US; (2) the taxation of swaps and other financial instruments; (3) the taxation of private and sovereign investment funds, their managers and their investors; and (4) mergers and other reorganizations.

In public policy matters, Don focuses principally on US federal legislative and regulatory initiatives involving the taxation of (1) cross-border transactions and investments; (2) private sector and sovereign investment funds, their managers and their investors; and (3) financial institutions and financial products. He also assists clients in connection with congressional investigations involving tax and financial matters.

Before joining the firm in 1984, Don served as Chief Counsel (Republican) to the Committee on Finance of the US Senate and as Vice President (Tax) and General Counsel to Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation. He also was an adjunct professor of law in the graduate tax program of Georgetown University.
