About Luis

Luis Belart co-leads the firm’s Financial Services Practice Group in our Madrid office. Banks, private credit funds, infrastructure investors and sponsors turn to him when a financing is complex and cross-border, and has to get to closing.

Luis advises across the capital structure – structured finance; project finance; acquisition and leveraged finance; real estate finance; receivables finance; and restructuring – acting for lenders and borrowers alike under Spanish law, Loan Market Association (LMA) and English law documentation. His practice is anchored in the energy transition, with particular depth in holdco, back-leverage and portfolio financings of solar photovoltaic (PV), wind and biomethane assets, and in the regulatory and security mechanics that make them bankable.

An IESE MBA, Luis reads a deal the way a credit committee does. He builds structures from the cash flows up, anticipates the lender’s questions before they are asked and negotiates terms that work on signing day and through the life of the loan. Clients value his commercial judgment, his responsiveness and his ability to bridge Spanish-law security realities and international financing documentation.

Before joining the firm, Luis co-founded the banking and finance practice of a global law firm in Madrid and built it from the ground up into a team ranked by Chambers, Legal 500 and IFLR1000. He trained at a Magic Circle firm in Madrid and London. He has also served as chief restructuring officer of a midmarket industrial group, giving him a borrower’s first-hand view of liquidity, covenant pressure and creditor negotiations.

His track record includes more than €8 billion in receivables finance transactions; more than 120 aircraft financings, sale-and-leasebacks and fleet restructurings; over 30 refinancings and restructurings; and more than 150 cross-border mandates coordinated with counsel in the US, the UK, Germany, France and Latin America.
