Anita Lloyd is an EMEA lead of our Chemicals Group and is a director in our Birmingham office. She specialises in environmental and sustainability matters, including waste, environmental permits, producer responsibility, product compliance and labelling, chemical regulation, asbestos and contaminated land, and climate change law.

Anita advises clients in all sectors but has particular expertise in the chemicals, plastics, automotive, paper and other manufacturing sectors. She regularly advises clients based in the UK, the EU and outside the EU, on environmental and product regulation and its application to their business, products, facilities and supply chains. She also has in depth experience in the environmental aspects of complex property and corporate transactions, particularly where this involves manufacturing or brownfield redevelopment.

Anita has been recognised by Chambers UK and The Legal 500 UK. She is an active member of the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKELA) and its Working Group on Climate Change and Energy. She speaks at many events and provides training courses on environmental and chemical regulatory topics, including the impact of Brexit.

  • Advising a pharmaceutical company on water pollution and environmental permitting issues, including in relation to an enforcement undertaking, communications with the Environment Agency, site closure and permit surrender.
  • Advising a number of US manufacturers on compliance of their products with a range of EU and UK requirements, including REACH, CLP, RoHS, CE/UKCA marking and the Biocidal Products Regulation.
  • Advising an international chemical company on REACH requirements in relation to its products, including registration, only representative arrangements, joint registration agreements, authorisation and its Brexit strategy.
  • Advising a large retailer in relation to a range of producer responsibility compliance matters (waste electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), restrictions on hazardous substances in EEE, batteries, packaging waste), including handling a packaging waste enforcement undertaking and advising on diverse product labelling requirements.
  • Advising a large chemical company on waste and permitting issues, including appealing an enforcement notice from the Environment Agency.
  • Advising a number of packaging producers and importers on compliance with producer responsibility obligations, including agreeing on enforcement undertakings with the Environment Agency, and advising on plastic packaging tax.
  • Advising a major construction products company on waste and producer responsibility obligations relevant to its products in the UK and multiple EU jurisdictions.
  • Advising a global industrial products company on the establishment and implementation of a waste take-back programme across its European operations.
  • Advising various product manufacturers on green claims they wished to make in relation to their products.
  • Advising a chemical company on the proposed acquisition of a chemicals business in the UK which involved many shared site and environmental permitting issues.
  • Advising a large energy company on the acquisition of a brownfield site associated with a new power station development, including complex remediation requirements, guarantees and environmental insurance.
