Mariyam Harunah is a senior associate in the Litigation team in Birmingham. Mariyam specialises in defamation and reputation management, together with pensions litigation.

More generally, Mariyam has a wealth of experience advising on a wide range of matters of both a contractual and tortious nature, including breach of contract, product liability, supply chain disputes, professional negligence, restrictive covenant breaches and debt recovery. Mariyam regularly acts for a diverse client base, including FTSE 100 and 250 corporations, SMEs, trustees and individuals. In The Legal 500 UK 2022, Mariyam was named as a Rising Star for Commercial Litigation. In The Legal 500 UK 2023, she was described as “excellent in her attention, service and advice”, “combining excellence on the law with a strong commercial approach”, “a stand out associate” and someone who is “extremely hardworking”, “creative” and “approachable”.

Mariyam won TheBusinessDesk.com’s 2022 Leader of the Year and Diversity & Inclusion Leader of the Year awards. She is a council member for the Birmingham Law Society and acted as its joint honorary secretary for two and a half years.

  • Acting for industrial manufacturers and suppliers in the defence of contractual and tortious disputes with technical complexities, arising out of the provision of allegedly defective products.
  • Assisting in the provision of bespoke and strategic advice to a national regulator dealing with persistent defamation and harassment.
  • Acting for a leading hire purchase provider in enforcement proceedings.
  • Assisting on a £500,000 negligence claim by a leading supermarket arising out of property damage and business interruption at one of its warehouses.
