The Closing Loopholes Bill – Navigating the Complexities of Australia’s Changing Employment Laws

Region: Asia Pacific
13 March 2024
Webinar

The past two years has seen some of the most significant reforms to Australian Employment Law … and there is more to come.

At the end of 2023, Parliament passed the first tranche of the government’s Closing Loopholes reforms in the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Bill 2023. Recently, further significant reforms were passed in the second tranche, the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No. 2) Bill 2023, which received Royal Assent on 26 February.

These are incredibly complicated pieces of legislation. Staying on top of the vast legislative amendments is tough enough, but on top of figuring out what these changes are, you also need to consider the impact of these changes, and what your business needs to do to ensure compliance (and when).

What Will You Take Away From the Session?

During the webinar, our presenters will discuss the following changes to:

  • Wage theft
  • Expanded right of entry rules for unions
  • Casual employment
  • The definition of “employee”

  • Independent contractor protections and unfair contract terms
  • “Employee-like workers” (including the “gig economy”)

Our presenters will also provide practical tips to equip you to plan for the proposed changes. There will be an opportunity to participate in an interactive Q&A session as well.
