On October 24, 2024, the competitive bidding threshold for Ohio public school districts will increase from US$50,000 to the amount specified in Ohio Revised Code (ORC) Section 9.17, currently US$75,000, by virtue of Senate Bill 168 of the 135th Ohio General Assembly.
Starting in calendar year 2025, the US$75,000 threshold amount will increase by 3% every calendar year as determined and published by the Ohio Department of Commerce.
The statute does not specify the need for a school district's board of education to adopt a resolution to utilize the adjusted threshold amount, but current school district purchasing policies may need to be amended to reflect the higher revised amount.
Other political subdivisions already subject to the threshold amounts under ORC Section 9.17 include counties, county sewer districts, municipal corporations, public libraries, regional airport authorities, regional water and sewer districts, soil and water conservation districts, townships and park districts.
