Asian Legal Business has named Christopher Bloch in its inaugural Singapore Rising Stars list. The list recognizes the next generation of the country’s lawyers who have demonstrated great potential in the industry, while earning wide acclaim from their clients.
With a practice that spans both international commercial and investment arbitration, Mr. Bloch represents clients across a variety of sectors, including energy, natural resources, and telecommunications. He has acted for parties across a wide range of disputes under the SIAC, ICC, CIETAC, HKIAC, ICDR-AAA, and UNCITRAL Rules, and has served as arbitral secretary in dozens of international commercial and investment proceedings.
In addition to his broader energy disputes practice, Mr. Bloch is a member of the firm’s world-renowned gas price review team and he has developed a specialty representing Asian parties in price review negotiations and arbitrations. He represented the buyer in the first known Asia-based LNG gas price review that successfully established jurisdiction.
Mr. Bloch has spent more than a decade working in the Asia Pacific, including Singapore, Australia, and Thailand. He spent almost four years as a senior member of the SIAC Secretariat, where he assisted the SIAC Court in the drafting of the 2016 SIAC Rules and the introduction of the SIAC’s first-ever Investment Arbitration Rules in 2017.
In addition to his work representing clients, Mr. Bloch often speaks and publishes on the topic of international dispute resolution and served on the Young ICCA Task Force for the Use and Appointment of Arbitral Secretaries where he co-authored the Young ICCA Guide on Arbitral Secretaries. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
