Callum Burbidge is a chartered trade mark attorney in the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group. He advises on all aspects of intellectual property, with a particular focus on trade marks.

He assists clients with protecting and managing their IP rights, including obtaining trade mark and design registrations, as well as conducting trade mark opposition and cancellation proceedings, both domestically and abroad. He also assists clients with monetizing their IP rights, through drafting and reviewing licence agreements, commercial contracts and conducting audits and due diligence in relation to their IP portfolios.

His work encompasses matters in the UK, EU, US and around the world, and he works across a range of industries, including national and international retailers, software developers, educational institutions, media and newspaper publishers, food and beverage companies, automotive manufacturers and technology providers.

  • Conducting trade mark and design clearance searches, and advising on the availability to use and register trade marks and designs in the UK, EU, US and around the world.
  • Advising and assisting clients with registering trade mark and design protection in the UK, EU, US and around the world, including handling examination and registrability objections.
  • Conducting trade mark disputes, including opposition and cancellation proceedings, in the UK, EU, US and around the world, involving the submission of claims, preparation and filing of arguments and evidence, attendance of hearings, filing and defending appeals, as well as handling of settlement negotiations.
  • Advising and assisting clients with the management of their IP portfolios, including renewal and maintenance requirements, and the registration of assignments, changes of name and address, licences and security interests against their IP rights.
  • Conducting audits and due diligence on IP portfolios, to identify gaps in protection and steps that can be taken to strengthen protection and increase attractiveness to future investors, as well as advising on potential IP issues in relation to the purchase and acquisition of other businesses and companies.
  • Drafting, negotiating and reviewing IP licence agreements, co-existence agreements, settlement agreements and other commercial contracts.
