Joel Fam advises on high-value, complex corporate and commercial disputes arising from a variety of matters ranging from mining and exploration agreements to insolvency and property disputes.

His experience includes handling winding-up applications, bankruptcy petitions, debt recovery and administrative law matters, including merits and judicial reviews. Joel represents clients in proceedings across multiple jurisdictions, including before superior state courts, the Federal Court of Australia and various tribunals.

  • Assisting various clients (including insurers; large and listed corporates; and small-to-medium enterprises) in relation to commercial disputes arising from trade credit claims, preference claims, default judgements, bankruptcy proceedings, wind-ups and liquidation.
  • Regularly appearing before the New South Wales state courts, including the Supreme Court, in relation to winding up applications, directions hearings and defended matters.
  • Appearing in the Federal Court of Australia in relation to creditor’s petition hearings.
  • Drafting and advising on various commercial transaction documents, including trade credit applications, and compliance and regulatory documents.
  • Assisting in relation to a prominent class action heard in the Northern Territory, including overseeing the distribution of the AU$35 million settlement to class action members.
