Monika Gagat assists trustees and employers on a wide range of issues relating to defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) schemes, such as data protection compliance and data breaches, day-to-day governance and pension disputes.

In March 2023, Monika won a Trainee Solicitor of the Year Award from the Birmingham Law Society. In 2023, Monika was also shortlisted as a Trainee of the Year at the Professional Pensions Rising Stars Awards.

Monika is an associate member of the Association of Pensions Lawyers.

Monika qualified into the Pensions Practice Group in August 2023 after training with the firm. As part of her training, Monika worked within the firm’s specialist pensions disputes team and the commercial team, where she advised trustee clients on commercial aspects of service agreements. Monika is a co-head of the Birmingham office Social Mobility Committee.

  • Assisting in advising clients on automatic enrolment issues and transfers to a DC master trust.
  • Advising trustee clients in connection with scheme adviser and service provider contracts.
  • Advising trustee clients in connection with data protection compliance and handling data protection breaches.
  • Providing pension support in corporate transactions.
  • Providing support on risk transfer transactions, including buy-ins and buyouts.
  • Drafting various scheme documents, such as deeds of amendment and trustee’s resolutions.
