Maria-Magdalena Markova is an associate building broad expertise in EU product and environmental law, with a growing practice at the intersection of sustainability, circular economy and general product compliance. Her work spans both advisory and litigation, covering the full product lifecycle – from market access and risk management to product safety, liability and end-of-life obligations.
Maria-Magdalena advises on chemicals legislation, including the regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP), as well as developing a strong focus on the regulation of biocides and plant protection products under EU law, particularly in relation to market access, data sharing and task force management. She also regularly supports clients on regulatory matters related to packaging and packaging waste, plastics, and, increasingly, recycling. In parallel, she assists companies in the electronics sector with compliance obligations under Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and Low Voltage Directive (LVD). Her practice further extends to advising on general product safety, accessibility and product liability. In addition to her advisory work, she is actively involved in litigation before both European and national courts.
Previously, she practiced law at a leading Bulgarian law firm, advising local and international clients on commercial and regulatory matters. She also completed a traineeship at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg.
She holds an LL.M. from Harvard Law School as a Fulbright Scholar, where she served as President of the Harvard European Law Association.
