Jose Martin
Partner
Jose Martin uses experience gained from more than 13 years as an in-house compliance and corporate counsel for major international corporations to advise clients in anticorruption and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) enforcement matters, compliance program design and implementation, internal investigations and training. He also represents clients in corporate and commercial matters, as well as in mergers and acquisitions law. A significant portion of Jose’s practice is focused on international business and investment, where he combines his compliance background, in-house experience and international perspective to manage matters involving multiple jurisdictions or issues of strategic importance. Jose also advises clients on labor and employment laws, with an emphasis in Mexico and Latin America.
Prior to joining the firm, Jose most recently served as Director of Compliance – Americas at Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. While there, he oversaw legal compliance-related projects and training for more than 100 properties in Canada, the US, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and French Polynesia.
Jose’s international in-house corporate background supports a diverse practice, which includes sports and entertainment, compliance policy and investigations, international gaming and gambling regulatory review and assessment, and anti-money laundering compliance. His previous experience also includes roles as Senior Corporate Counsel and Senior Corporate Compliance Counsel for several Fortune 100 companies during a period of explosive growth, where he managed matters including international anticorruption, antiboycott laws, and SOX compliance.
He started his legal career as an associate with an AmLaw 100 law firm.
White Collar
- Representing private and public companies in conducting their anticorruption due diligence and global third-party program implementation.
- Representing a government-owned company in global criminal prosecutions and asset recovery efforts.
- Conducting internal investigations of public and private companies into allegations of fraud, kickbacks and other internal company violations.
- Conducting global investigations into money laundering and violations of US sanctions.
- Conducting anticorruption risk assessments for a global hospitality company.
- Training US public companies’ domestic and foreign legal departments on anticorruption compliance.
- Advise and revise private company’s anti-money laundering program.
Corporate
- Preparing global third-party sales, distributions and agency templates for use in global operations.
- Advise a global real estate/technology company on implementation of a business plan in Latin America.
- Provide a government-owned company with advice on global sales contracts and contract management process.
