Ellen Phillips focuses her practice on appellate litigation and motion practice in complex commercial trials. Ellen has drafted appellate briefs at federal and state courts of appeals across the US, including at the US Supreme Court, and has litigated in trial courts across the US. In her practice, Ellen has assisted on a wide range of matters, including successfully defending a sovereign immunity judgment for a sovereign client in the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, winning injunctive relief for an employer in a trade secret misappropriation case and obtaining dismissal of a high-profile class action false advertising suit.

Prior to joining the firm, Ellen served as a law clerk to Judge Deborah L. Cook of the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, an associate at a litigation-focused boutique law firm in Columbus, Ohio, and a law clerk to Judge John T. Copenhaver of the US District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. Ellen obtained significant experience early in her career, interning during law school at the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Ohio Supreme Court. She has a keen eye for spotting important legal issues and an expertise in presenting arguments in a concise, effective manner.
