Alix Poole is an associate with experience advising public and private sector clients on the development and delivery of major construction, energy, natural resources and infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on non-contentious matters. Alix has acted on a range of domestic and cross-border transactions, including renewable energy developments, mining and resources infrastructure, as well as transport and utilities projects. Alix’s work spans all stages of the project lifecycle, from procurement strategy and contract drafting to negotiation, administration and claims.

Alix also has experience acting on large, complex disputes arising from major construction and infrastructure developments.

In 2023, Alix transferred to the Tokyo office, where she spent two years on secondment to a leading Japanese trading company, assisting on a broad range of domestic and cross-border transactions.

  • Drafted and negotiated construction, mining services and related project documentation for a lithium producer in Greenbushes, Western Australia, with respect to multiple facilities, including a tailings retreatment plant and tailings storage dams.
  • Assisted a luxury retailer on the preparation of bespoke supply and fit-out contracts for its flagship store in Westfield Sydney.
  • Supported a global financial services company, preparing and negotiating a range of procurement contracts including services agreements, minor and major works contracts and goods supply agreements. Also developed contract templates and delivered construction law training to the in-house legal team.
  • Assisted advising a global renewable energy company on procurement arrangements and frameworks for solar panel acquisition and contributed to the creation of reusable templates for services, works and goods contracts.
  • Drafting suites of contracts, including design and construct contracts, consultancy contracts, equipment supply contracts and major and minor works agreements.
  • Providing high-level review and advice in relation to engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contracts, power purchase agreements (PPAs) and operation and maintenance (O&M) contracts in bespoke form, as well as Australian and international standard form.
  • Advising clients in relation to defective work issues, latent defect claims and non-payments arising under construction contracts.
  • Assisting with due diligence on proposed and established projects, including with respect to a project financing of a portfolio of renewable energy power stations in Australia.
  • Acted for clients in relation to arbitration proceedings under the ICC Rules in Singapore arising out of the AU$65 billion Ichthys LNG project.
  • Acted for a Chinese state-owned entity in its dispute with a contractor arising out of the AU$11 billion Roy Hill iron ore project under UNCITRAL Rules in Singapore.
  • Acted for various clients in relation to adjudication applications under the Construction Contracts Act 2004 and the Building and Construction Industry (Security of Payment) Act 2021 in Western Australia.
