Helena Švandová’s practice focuses predominantly on investor-state and commercial arbitration. Helena also advises clients in proceedings before Czech courts.

Helena has experience with arbitral proceedings under the ICSID, ICC and UNCITRAL arbitration rules, as well as proceedings before the Arbitration Court attached to the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic and Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic.

  • Advising Kosovo in investment arbitration against a Croatian-Kosovar double national regarding alleged investment in the petrol sector.
  • Advising Kosovo in investment arbitration against an Estonian company regarding cancellation of a banking license.
  • Advising a group of Canadian and Cypriot investors in investment arbitration regarding indirect expropriation of construction land.
  • Advising the state of Libya in a pending €52 million investment arbitration relating to a construction project filed by the company Nurol Insaat ve Ticaret before the ICC under the Turkey-Libya BIT.
  • Advising several investors in ICSID annulment proceedings.
  • Representing a major Czech and CEE group involved in the aluminium, metallurgical and machinery industries in an ICC arbitration against a supplier of industrial machines.
  • Representing a Czech-Israeli developer against a municipality in the Czech Republic for damages of significant financial value.
  • Advising a Cypriot company in arbitral proceedings concerning a breach of a share purchase agreement.
  • Advising several Czech companies in commercial disputes before Czech courts, as well as in arbitral proceedings before the Arbitration Court attached to the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic and Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic.
  • Advising Czech and Slovak entities in proceedings relating to the decisions of the Czech Office for the Protection of Competition.
  • Advising clients in proceedings before the Czech Constitutional Court concerning expropriation claims.
  • Advising a Czech real estate development company in court proceedings concerning the validity of a contract concluded with a state-owned entity.
