Sam Tibbetts is a director in the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group in our Birmingham office. Sam's expertise covers a wide area of commercial contracts for the procurement and supply of goods and services (including manufacture, distribution and agency), collaboration agreements and agreements relating to data handling and security. Sam also has wide experience in assisting clients with their IT requirements, including the acquisition and implementation of core IT systems and assisting them with the development of their online presence.

Sam has developed a good understanding of the requirements and challenges facing clients having spent time on secondments to the in-house commercial legal teams at ITV, E.ON, National Grid and Iron Mountain.

  • Advised a leading private healthcare provider on the design, supply and implementation of a fully managed communications network, replacing the client's existing infrastructure with a business critical centralized solution connecting all client sites.
  • Advised a leading debt management company in relation to the replacement of its two core internal IT environments with one fully managed hosted infrastructure as a service platform.
  • Advised a major fleet management and leasing company on the replacement of its WAN infrastructure and the implementation of an outsourced hosted solution.

  • Advised an international life sciences client on the establishment of purpose-built multimillion pound “biohub” facilities in the UK, including drafting and advising on management and operation agreements with the site operators and tenancy agreement with long and short term occupiers of the facility.

  • Advised a publisher of greeting cards and social expression products on trading agreements with a number of national supermarkets and other major retailers within the UK.
  • Advised a national retailer with a wide range of agreements relating to the sourcing, manufacture and supply of jewellery to consumers (including sales online and via physical stores).
  • Advised an international supplier of materials handling equipment on its standard framework agreement for the acquisition of goods and services.
  • Advised several Premier League clubs and a major national venue owner with a range of agreements, including relating to sponsorship, hospitality, consumer promotions and ticketing.
  • Advised a leading vehicle manufacturer in relation to the preparation of its standard form international distribution agreement and the appointment of distributors in Australia and the Middle East.
  • Advised an international chemicals company in respect if its negotiations with an Asian manufacturer of chemicals to act as its exclusive distributor in a number of European countries.
  • Advised an international weather services company in respect of the delivery of weather services and digital content, including advising in respect of its negotiations in respect of the delivery of weather services and digital content to a major national broadcaster and in relation to the development and pre-installation of applications on smart technology, including phones and connected TVs.
  • Advised a leading international provider of banking and payment solutions on the acquisition and licensing of intellectual property for the purposes of providing enhanced solutions to customers.
  • Advised a leading biotech company on the drafting and negotiation of an exclusive licence of certain of its intellectual property to a medical company based in China.
  • Advised a leading debt servicing company on a range of agreements with major banks for the servicing and acquisition of consumer debts.
  • Advised a major utility on the preparation of bilateral and multilateral collaborative research and development agreements for use with private companies and academic institutions.
  • Advised on a collaboration agreement to carry out research and development in connection with the development of an intelligent surgical device, including advising on the terms of the collaboration agreement, drafting a materials transfer agreement and advising on the conditions of EU grant funding.
