Dr. Matthias Werner is a director in the Real Estate Practice Group and leads real estate asset management and asset deal transactions in Germany. He advises and represents clients on all aspects of real estate-related issues, particularly regarding issues of realty and commercial lease law.

Matthias handles asset deal transactions and property developments and advises regarding all issues of asset and property management, particularly commercial lease law, realty law, hereditary building rights and the rights of condominiums and public building law issues, such as planning law. He also advises clients in litigation and arbitration procedures.

Matthias has worked in the real estate industry for over 20 years, inter alia as general manager of an asset and property management business in Berlin and, since 2008, as a lawyer in international and German law firms. He has advised numerous mid- and large-cap real estate investors. In addition, he has been appointed a lecturer and examiner by the joint examination office of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg and the Berlin court of appeals (Kammergericht).

  • Advising Vonovia SE on the proposed sale of its healthcare business.
  • Advising Deutsche Wohnen SE on the acquisition of a platform for project developments and project developments of ISARIA Group, as well as a proposed acquisition of a leading German project development company.
  • Advising a joint venture of Union Investment and ZBI AG on the acquisition of GBP Group with approximately 16,000 residential units and hereditary building rights in Germany.
  • Advising ZBI AB on certain acquisitions, inter alia two project developments (forward deals) in Düsseldorf and Frankfurt by leading German project developers, as well as the sale of real estate funds.
  • Advising Generali Real Estate inter alia on the acquisition of the shopping center PEP in Munich by an ECE company, project development of Weidtpark Corner in Berlin (forward deal) by DWI Group, acquisition of a supermarket portfolio (approximately 30 properties) in Germany, and ongoing asset management issues.
  • Advising Caleus Capital Partners on the acquisition of a majority stake in TechnoCampus Berlin by AXA Real Estate regarding the acquisition in a joint venture with GCI (Singapore) of the Hotel de Rome in Berlin.
  • Advising Hines on the acquisition of numerous real properties, including the Olympus Campus in Hamburg and commercial buildings in Berlin and Stuttgart.
  • Advising EQT Group on the sale of the healthcare chain Charleston to KOS (operational business) and Primonial (real estate).
  • Advising investors regarding wind park funds. Among the investment companies was EB-SIM regarding its investment in four wind parks in Brandenburg and Saxony.
  • Ongoing advice for Investa Group regarding numerous intended and realized acquisitions, among which are two office towers in Berlin.
  • Advising DLE on the acquisition of a shopping mall in Bavaria and a project development in North Rhine-Westphalia.
  • Advising GSG on the sale of a portfolio in Berlin to EREL funds
  • Ongoing advice of LBBW Real Estate (partly as a joint venture) on the acquisition of real estate portfolios and shopping centers, including one in Munich by the Hahn Group.
  • Ongoing advice of QUANTUM Real Estate, such as the acquisition of a residential portfolio in Hamburg by CI Wohnen GmbH and a project development as forward deal by Fischer Wohnbau & Immobilien.
  • Advising Values Institutional Invest on the acquisition of four major office buildings, including buildings in Saxony by OMEGA group.
  • Advising landowners in a planning law procedure of the State of Berlin (approximately 210,000 square meters) and advising on the sale of the co-ownership shares to Bauwert AG.
  • Advising Credit Suisse on the acquisition of several real estate properties, including a commercial building in Berlin by Barings European Core Property Funds and a shopping center in Düsseldorf.
  • Advising Copro on the sale of a majority stake in the project development Urbane Mitte in Berlin.
