The team advises a range of oil and gas and service sector clients, from major providers, government and private-owned energy companies, clean technology companies, regional oil and gas providers, institutional investors, investment funds, sponsors and financiers of renewable energy products to major corporate and financial institutions. We have acted as trusted advisers on many of the sector’s most complex undertakings, from the financing and development of major projects, to ongoing operations. Businesses turn to us for advice relating to all manner of oil and gas legal issues, throughout the lifecycle of their projects – whether dealing with crude oil, bitumen, natural gas, natural gas liquids or liquefied natural gas (LNG).

In relation to project contracting, our construction team understands the key contracts for contractors including those for the production platform, production storage and offloading, operating agreements, and ancillary service agreement including those agreements for production generation and power supply, oil and gas transportation through to decommissioning agreements.

The international nature of our legal practice means our lawyers work flexibly to offer quality advice and consultancy services. As a fully integrated global practice, our advice is not limited to the construction and operation of the project. We are able to advise on every aspect of oil and gas transactional and operational issues in the UK and overseas from project inception. This includes matters such as government agreements, licensing, joint venture and operating work and pre-unitization and unitization agreements, farm-in, lifting agreements, transportation, marketing and sale.

  • Acting in a LMAA arbitration between an Asia Pacific- and Middle East-based shipowner and a France-based supplier over the supply of liquefaction plant on board three vessels. Dispute valued at more than US$20 million. 
  • Counseling in a dispute between the contractor and buyer of two jack-up drilling units, the largest and most advanced ever built, on contract disputed claims valued at more than US$500 million. 
  • Oil major – Advising on arbitrations against a subcontractor arising from a UK-based oil and gas facility. 
  • Republic of Korea-based contractor – Advising on a multimillion-pound arbitration in Singapore regarding an offshore jack up rig platform. 
  • Uniflare – Advising on design, supply, install and maintain arrangements in respect of equipment to create energy from waste at major landfill sites in Senegal. 
  • New Zealand contractor – Acting in a UNCITRAL arbitration regarding a seabed pipeline contract dispute with an Asia Pacific-based government and related tailored alternative dispute resolution mini-trial procedure. 
  • EPC contractor – Advising on an EPC contract for the construction of a US$9 billion pearl gas to liquid plant in Ras Lafan, Qatar. 
  • EPC contractor – Advising on an EPC contract for the construction of a US$500 million power and process plant in India. 
  • Germany-based EPC contractor – Advising on a delay and disruption claim, valued at US$300 million, in relation to a large-scale gas to liquids (GTL) facility in the Middle East. 
  • Utility company – Acting in respect of the decommissioning of four salt cavities for gas storage in the north of England.
