Global law firm Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce the addition of partner Jeffrey Orenstein to its International Trade & Foreign Investment Practice Group in Washington, DC. He joins from K&L Gates LLP.

Jeffrey focuses his practice on international trade and transportation matters, with an emphasis on economic sanctions, customs regulations, export controls, national security reviews, and transportation regulatory matters.

His experience includes regulatory compliance, investigations, due diligence, training, and enforcement related to sanctions and embargoes administered by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), export controls governed by the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) under the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) overseen by the Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC).

“Jeff brings a wealth of experience at a time of high demand across our practice driven by an incredibly dynamic trade policy environment,” said International Trade & Foreign Investment practice co-chair Shannon Reaves. “In addition to his work on sanctions, export controls, and customs regulatory issues, Jeff brings invaluable experience advising companies grappling with increased enforcement and compliance activity related to the international transport of goods. His deep background in so many trade areas will also help us to provide comprehensive solutions for CFIUS cases that involve these issues. We are thrilled to welcome him to our global team.”

International Trade & Foreign Investment Practice co-chair George Grammas added, “As trade and national security issues become more interconnected, Jeff’s experience will be instrumental in supporting clients across industries facing evolving enforcement priorities. He is a welcomed addition to our cross-border offering.”

Commenting on his move, Orenstein said, “Providing clients with a comprehensive compliance strategy requires a multijurisdictional approach that blends knowledge of various legal and regulatory frameworks with sound policy advice. Squire presented an opportunity to work on a globally integrated team and with a complementary international practice platform that will enable me to support clients more effectively.”

Jeffrey earned his J.D., cum laude, from George Mason University School of Law, his M.A. from The University of Chicago, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Boston University.
