Squire Patton Boggs is serving as principal legal counsel on the Pedernales–Cabo Rojo tourism project, a transformative development under construction in the Dominican Republic that is set to play a central role in the country’s long-term economic and tourism development strategy.
Located in the southwestern region of the country, the Pedernales–Cabo Rojo project is designed to establish a new, sustainable tourism destination supported by modern infrastructure, including an international airport, and a resort which will include hotels, a marina, real estate development, and roads, sewage and electricity infrastructure to handle millions of visitors per year.
The initiative reflects a broader national effort to diversify tourism offerings in the Dominican Republic while serving as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation and regional development through private investment and public-sector collaboration.
The firm’s work on behalf of a consortium led by Grupo Puntacana and including several of the country’s largest financial institutions is led by Santo Domingo Managing Partner and Latin America Practice head Alejandro Peña Prieto, of counsel George Spence and senior associate Laura Consuegra, drawing on the firm’s deep experience advising on complex commercial transactions.
Squire Patton Boggs maintains a long-standing presence in the Dominican Republic, one of the fastest-growing economies in Latin America and the Caribbean and has advised domestic and international clients on many of the country’s most significant transactions.
