Squire Patton Boggs Named Law360 Practice Group of the Year for International Arbitration

Squire Patton Boggs has been recognized by Law360 as a winner of its Practice Groups of the Year awards for 2025 for International Arbitration. The awards honor the attorney teams behind litigation wins and significant transaction work that resonated throughout the legal industry in the past year.

Among the firm's victories was one of the largest international arbitration wins in recent years for the Slovak Republic, worth US$2.11 billion. It also achieved an award favoring the Czech Republic's CEZ Group in a dispute with Gazprom, after the Russian state-owned energy company curtailed gas supplies to so-called ‘unfriendly’ countries in retaliation for sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. There was also a significant victory secured for the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in two arbitrations before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), with the dismissal of claims valued by claimants at US$635 million.

Other notable wins included acting for investment company Kleros Capital Partners Limited in an arbitration against Tata Power, and securing a victory for the Republic of Latvia, with the dismissal of a claim brought by RSE Holdings under the Energy Charter Treaty in ad hoc proceedings under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules.

The firm’s International Dispute Resolution team comprises over 110 attorneys across 20 different countries and currently manages more than 200 arbitrations and related litigations around the world, involving an aggregate amount in dispute exceeding US$249.3 billion.

Stephen Anway, global co-chair of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Practice Group, said: “We are proud to be recognized as a leading firm for international arbitration by Law360.

“Our practice has grown exponentially in both size and in the value of the claims we are handling, which, combined with our expertise in investment treaty arbitration, international public law disputes between States, and international commercial arbitration, gives us a very strong and unique position in the market.
