Partner and global co-chair of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Practice Group Stephen Anway has been redesignated by the Slovak Republic to the Panel of Arbitrators of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) for a term of six years. He was first designated to serve on the Panel of Arbitrators in December 2019, and he has also served on the Panel of Conciliators.
ICSID is the world’s leading institution devoted to international investment dispute settlement. States have agreed on ICSID as a forum for investor-State dispute settlement in most international investment treaties and in numerous investment laws and contracts. Each Member State designates four arbitrators and four conciliators to each Panel.
The arbitrators and conciliators listed on the Panels are available for selection to ICSID Tribunals, Conciliation Commissions and ad hoc Committees. The Panel lists are used most often to appoint where the parties are unable to agree on a nominee. The Panel of Arbitrators is also used for appointment to ad hoc Committees.
George von Mehren, global co-chair of the International Dispute Resolution Practice Group, commented: “We are delighted that Stephen has been redesignated to the Panel, which is testimony to his considerable experience and profile within investment arbitration.”
Acting as lead counsel and as an arbitrator in international arbitrations, Mr. Anway has represented the winning party in many of the largest arbitrations in the world over the past 20 years. He has worked in 40 countries and has represented clients in 125 international arbitrations. In 2025, Jus Mundi named him to its Power List: Top Male Arbitration Lawyers, recognizing the 50 standout practitioners who shaped international arbitration in 2023-2024.
