Allison Woolston is of counsel in our Environmental, Safety & Health Practice, based in Denver. She brings over a decade of experience advising energy companies on complex legal, regulatory and operational matters.
Most recently, Allison served as senior vice president, secretary and general counsel of a private oil and gas company with operations primarily in Colorado and Utah. She provided strategic legal counsel to the board and senior executives and led the environmental, health and safety (EHS), regulatory, human resources and land teams. Allison advised on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and compliance, as well as spearheading the development of the company’s annual ESG report. As general counsel, she directed litigation strategy, advised on employment law issues and managed transactional matters, including negotiating commercial agreements related to oilfield services, midstream operations, and mineral and surface leasing. In addition, Allison provided legal support for strategic acquisitions and the company’s ultimate US$1.9 billion divestiture.
Previously, Allison had been senior counsel at a publicly traded North American exploration and production company with operations in the US and Canada where she provided dedicated legal support to the land and operations teams in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Texas. She was the lead in-house counsel for the sale of the company’s assets in Colorado.
Allison began her legal career in private practice with an AmLaw 100 firm, where she represented domestic and international energy clients in transactional, regulatory and litigation matters. Her work included acquisition due diligence, contract negotiation, advising on royalty disputes, and drafting and review of oil field services contracts.
Throughout her career, Allison has been active in the broader energy industry, serving as the first woman chair of the Colorado Oil and Gas Association and as an advisory board member for Western Energy Alliance.
Allison served as a law clerk to the Honorable Russell E. Carparelli and the Honorable Arthur P. Roy at the Colorado Court of Appeals.
Prior to her legal career, Allison was a veterinarian in Wyoming.
