Itzel Vazquez Mora is an associate in the firm’s Financial Services Practice Group, where she advises regulated entities, such as banks, insurance companies, brokers, dealers and their affiliates, on a wide range of issues, including, inter alia, capital markets, banking mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and regulatory matters.
Before joining the firm, Itzel also served as an executive legal secretary in our Los Angeles office, supporting litigation and transactional matters, including defense litigation for large corporations related to government contracts and mergers and acquisitions. She also gained valuable experience working with federal government agencies such as US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) after working as a Spanish interpreter and legal assistant representing clients during immigration proceedings, where she also translated documents into Portuguese. In addition, she has experience working on judicial foreclosure and civil employment matters.
While at Columbia Law School, she served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Gerald Lebovits at the New York State Supreme Court, where she assisted with legal research and drafting for commercial litigation matters. She participated in campus activities as a board member of the Criminal Justice Action Network, and was actively involved in several student organizations, including the Latinx Law Students Association, Empowering Women of Color, the California Society of Columbia Law School and the Business and Law Association.
In addition to her legal practice, Itzel has been a pioneer in women’s and professional leadership advancement. She is actively involved in women’s empowerment networks in her community that bring together diverse, intergenerational groups of women across industries to mentor, collaborate and build pathways for success. Her work in this area reflects her reputation as an innovative problem-solver and connector, with a talent for strengthening organizations and building collaborative solutions.
Through her combined expertise in financial services law and her leadership in professional and community initiatives, Itzel has positioned herself as a trusted advisor and emerging leader both inside and outside the firm.
