Juan Tomás Vargas Nieto is an associate in our Financial Services Practice Group based in Santo Domingo. His practice focuses on financial, corporate and litigation matters.
He participates in the structuring of financing projects and in transactions for the acquisition of entities and assets. He also represents clients in civil and labor litigation proceedings, as well as in sports arbitrations. Additionally, he assists clients in obtaining, updating or amending authorizations, registrations or permits before regulatory institutions in the Dominican Republic.
Participated in the structuring of a financing and bond issuance for a Dominican company holding government concessions, including the preceding due diligence process, representing a consortium of foreign financial institutions.
Supported a due diligence process and the subsequent structuring of a financing for a Dominican manufacturing company, representing a lenders’ group led by a major foreign investment bank.
Assisted a leading global provider of infection-prevention products and services in an asset acquisition and divestiture transaction to establish a sterilization facility in the Dominican Republic, including the incorporation of a local special-purpose vehicle and the end-to-end regulatory and corporate formalization process before Dominican authorities.
Represented a Major League Baseball academy in the Dominican Republic in a sports arbitration matter.
Served as the lead associate representing Major League Baseball academies in the Dominican Republic in labor claims filed by former minor league players.
Represented a major commercial airline in multiple damages claims before consumer protection authorities.

Assisted international airlines with applications and amendments to operating permits and special permits before Dominican authorities, as well as related compliance requirements under applicable local law.
Advised local and international clients on commercial contracting matters in the Dominican Republic, including negotiating key terms and coordinating execution, and drafted and reviewed distribution, services and real estate leasing agreements.
Advised international clients on real estate transactions involving the acquisition and sale of properties in tourist areas in the Dominican Republic.
