Madison Laton’s practice focuses on helping telecommunications and broadband providers navigate state and federal regulations, secure and maintain licenses, and advance transactions to build communications infrastructure. She advises clients on a range of telecommunications compliance issues, including those related to submarine cables, fiber-optic networks, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service and multichannel video programming distributors (MVPD) operations.
Madison’s experience includes navigating the unique regulatory framework applicable to incarcerated people’s communications services and advising clients on the implications of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules for emerging technologies. Her experience with the FCC’s universal service initiatives, including the E-rate program, allows her to advise clients on compliance and dispute resolution issues arising through the Universal Service Administrative Company. She also regularly assists telecommunications service providers with navigating regulatory compliance issues related to initiating or expanding service, including acquiring FCC authorizations for undersea cables and satellites, and she has extensive experience handling transfers of control and assignments of authorization for FCC licenses.
Prior to joining the firm, Madison was an intern at the FCC in the Wireline Competition Bureau and later was an associate at a communications-focused firm, where her practice dealt with FCC licensing, universal service issues and transactions involving communications providers.
