Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. is pleased to participate in the 44th BME Symposium, “Purchasing and Logistics: New Opportunities.” The symposium, organised by the German Association Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics, will take place from 11 November to 13 November in Berlin. It brings together managers and key decision makers from all over Europe to gather and share information about developments, trends and outlooks in the worlds of purchasing and logistics.

Squire Sanders London partner Carol M. Welu will present the session “Global Reach of the FCPA: Traps for the Unwary” on Thursday, 12 November at 2:30 p.m.

The session covers:

  • Increased global enforcement of the FCPA and other anticorruption laws
  • Risky business – corrupt markets v. more aggressive prosecution
  • Gifts and hospitality – staying away from the danger zones

Dr. Andreas Fillmann, partner in the Squire Sanders Frankfurt office, will participate in the “Compliance in Purchasing” session as a member of a discussion panel on 12 November at 5 p.m. The panel, “Accidentally Corrupt – Do Small Gifts Preserve a Friendship?” focuses on:

  • Where do the greatest sources of danger lie?
  • Is using a gift and invitation policy practical?
  • Supplier stumbling blocks – what services are deemed corrupt under the new regulation?

A special conference on Asia sourcing will also be offered as part of the symposium. Join experts from a variety of Asian countries to discuss searching for suppliers efficiently, quality assurance in Asia, global supply chain optimization, improving logistics processes, and adequate staff development and qualifications.
