Pensions Weekly Update – 21 September 2022

September 2022
Region: Europe

Here is our weekly summary of key legal and regulatory developments relevant to occupational pension schemes, which you might have missed, with links for further information.

  • Guy Opperman ceased to be minister for pensions and financial inclusion on 8 September 2022. He has published an open letter on his Twitter account, summarising some of the challenges and achievements during his run as the longest-serving pensions minister in recent times. We understand that Alex Burghart has been appointed as the new pensions minister.
  • Register for an in-person breakfast seminar, which will take place on 11 October 2022 at our Birmingham office. We, along with Broadstone, will be offering some practical tips for pension trustees on environmental, social and governance, effective systems of governance (flowing from the new single code of practice) and the new defined benefit funding regulations.
  • Watch out for our autumn Hot Topics in Pensions, which will contain a brief summary of the latest pensions topics for inclusion on trustee and corporate agendas this quarter. For a more detailed summary of issues for trustee agendas, take a look at our Pensions Lessons for Trustees 2022 – A Whole New Curriculum.

If you would like specific advice on any of these issues, or on anything else, please contact a member of our Pensions team.
