The Daily Journal, California’s largest legal news provider, has named Squire Sanders partner Rahul Pathak to its annual list of the top intellectual property lawyers.
Now in its seventh year, the list honors 75 IP litigators and 25 portfolio managers / patent prosecutors from across California for the impact of their achievements on behalf of clients and in the advancement of IP law. Dr. Pathak was recognized for his work assisting clients -- which includes start-ups; established companies, academic institutions and investment firms -- in developing and evaluating patent rights in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and biochemistry.
In his profile, the Daily Journal highlights Dr. Pathak’s green efforts with clients such as startup LiveFuels, Inc. and biofuels company Amyris, Inc. Dr. Pathak is representing LiveFuels, which focuses on creating fuels from renewable sources and sustainable ways for “aquaculture,” in obtaining patents for new methods to harvest energy from algae by using fish.
For Amyris, Dr. Pathak led a team that obtained patents related to chemical compositions, chemical production methods, ways to genetically modify microorganisms, and methods for producing industrial chemicals in living cells. The Daily Journal points out that one noteworthy example of this type of work was seen at the Paris Air Show this past June, “where an Airbus aircraft flew a demonstration flight powered by a blend of jet fuel patented by Pathak and his team on behalf of Amyris.”
Dr. Pathak holds a Ph.D. in chemistry and has extensive experience with small molecule pharmaceuticals, peptide pharmaceuticals, polypeptide pharmaceuticals, nucleic acid diagnostics, polypeptide biochemistry, structural biology, and molecular biology. This is the fourth time he has appeared on the listing.
