Squire Patton Boggs’ Perth property team assisted WA hospitality specialists Prendiville Group in its acquisition of the heritage-listed Fremantle Technical School. The imposing building, set on the port city’s famous cappuccino strip, was sold by the Western Australian government and was the subject of intense interest from prospective purchasers.
Real Estate partner Michael Swift has worked with the Prendiville Group for a number of years and on numerous transactions and projects, including the simultaneous acquisition of nine hotels across Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory from the Abu Dhabi Sovereign Fund, the acquisition of the Brisbane Hotel in Perth, the redevelopment of the Hotel Rottnest and the acquisition of the Mangrove Beach Resort in Broome. He noted that the Prendiville Group has a long history and connection with Fremantle and the proposed redevelopment of the building will further enhance the hospitality offering in the port city.
The Prendiville Group is currently undertaking a master plan of the site, which will consider the activation of the old Infant and Girls’ School with a food and beverage offering, as well as a small-scale hotel on the existing car park.
Michael Swift was assisted by Courtenay Stockley and Danica Peters. The government was represented by the State Solicitor’s Office.
