Squire Patton Boggs has appointed Jayson Marks as a partner in its Global Corporate Practice in London. Mr. Marks joins from Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW). His appointment follows, earlier this year, that of partners Brian Gordon (former global head of Corporate for HFW), Simon Adams and Caroline Brown, and the addition to the Squire Patton Boggs Commodities & Shipping Group of former HFW partners Chris Swart and Katie Pritchard and four associates.

Mr. Marks has more than 15 years’ experience specialising in IPOs, secondary fundraisings, public takeovers and other equity capital markets transactions on AIM and the main market. In addition, he advises extensively on cross-border M&A, disposals, equity investments and joint ventures. With a primary focus on natural resources, acting for mining and oil and gas companies and investors, Mr. Marks has also regularly advised on a broad range of corporate transactions in other industry sectors, such as financial services, commodities and shipping.

Among recent work highlights, Mr. Marks has advised Asia Coal Energy Ventures on its successful US$200 million hostile takeover to acquire Asia Resource Minerals plc (formerly Bumi plc), which owns one of the largest thermal coal producing assets in Indonesia; WH Ireland Group plc on the sale of its Isle of Man wealth management business; and ArcelorMittal SA, the world’s largest steel trader, on the sale of 50% of Global Chartering in order to form a 50:50 joint venture in respect of its dry bulk shipping business.

Jane Haxby, office managing partner in London, comments: “Jayson’s skills and track record in equity capital markets transactions and cross-border M&A boost our UK and international capabilities in London. He will fit well into an existing dynamic equity capital markets and corporate team that works seamlessly across sectors acting for public and private companies in complex transactions. In addition, Jayson’s in-depth experience in the upstream oil and gas sector, as well as a previous secondment to a significant Nigerian oil and gas company, provides an extra dimension to our client offering in both global natural resources and sub-Saharan Africa.”
