Revista Mercado has released the 2020 edition of The Top 40 under 40, highlighting influential young people in the Dominican Republic who are “imparting a new way of doing business and positively impacting the development of the sectors in which they participate.” Squire Patton Boggs senior associate George Spence was ranked #27 on this year’s list.
Of the winners, Mercado writes, “all of them … from the public and private sectors, are showing the world that good ideas have no limits and that age is not an impediment to success. It recognizes leaders … who are shaping the future of the industry.”
Based in the firm’s Santo Domingo office, Mr. Spence works closely with colleagues in the Washington DC office and other teams across the US, on corporate transactional matters, including acquisitions, mergers, divestitures, joint ventures, and group reorganizations in a diverse range of industries and sectors, involving inbound and outbound international business transactions. In his profile, Mercado noted that Mr. Spence has worked on a number of high-profile matters throughout his career, such as the groundbreaking merger of Centro Financiero BHD and Grupo Financiero León, which resulted in the formation of the second-largest privately held banking institution in the Dominican Republic. Additionally, Mr. Spence was part of the team that represented E. Leon Jimenes in a US$900 million sale of shares in the largest brewery in the Caribbean region. He also played a leading role in the cross-border reorganization and ultimate liquidation of E. Leon Jimenes.
