Latino Leaders Magazine Names Four Squire Patton Boggs Lawyers to Top Latino Lawyers, Ones to Watch Lists

    Squire Patton Boggs partners Eduardo R. Guzmán, Raúl B. Mañón and Carolina O. Soto have been recognized by Latino Leaders magazine to its 2020 Top Latino Lawyers list. The lawyers were selected for their impressive career track, successful cases and community involvement. Senior associate Loana Martin was named to the inaugural list of “Lawyers to Keep on the Watch.”

    Mr. Guzmán represents telecommunications, media and technology (TMT) companies on regulatory and dispute resolution matters in the US and Latin America. He advises carriers and providers on the implications of regulatory policy involving telecommunications and emerging technologies, and defends them in litigation and other proceedings involving those issues. As Chair of the firm’s Caribbean/Central America Desk and a member of the Executive Committee for the Latin America Practice, Mr. Guzmán regularly represents the interests of private corporations and industry groups in matters before administrative agencies and other government entities in Puerto Rico, and advises on legal, business, regulatory and political issues in connection with their plans to establish new operations and/or their existing operations in Puerto Rico.

    A member of the Latin America Executive Committee and a member of the firm’s world-recognized International Dispute Resolution (IDR) Practice, Mr. Mañón focuses on international dispute resolution and international litigation. As a lawyer with two law degrees from both a civil-law and common-law jurisdiction, and having practiced in both systems, Mr. Mañón is highly effective advising and representing clients in cross-border, transnational disputes whether before US courts or international tribunals. He regularly acts as counsel to sovereign nations and multinational corporations in investment treaty and commercial arbitrations.

    As head of the Santo Domingo office’s IDR Practice, Ms. Soto focuses her practice on civil and commercial litigation and dispute resolution, working with clients on the prevention and resolution of disputes. She has developed significant expertise in court litigation and arbitration, particularly on civil and commercial matters representing multinational clients or domestic large corporations. From negotiation to conciliation to arbitration or litigation, Ms. Soto works with her clients from beginning of the potential and/or actual dispute until the final resolution. For the past several years, Ms. Soto has been a professor on Dispute Resolution, Commercial Arbitration and Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Decision at law schools: the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) Law School and Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), both in Santo Domingo, and at a master jointly held by PUCMM and the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Spain.

    A member of the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources Practice, Ms. Martin focuses her practice on corporate transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors, developing natural gas pipelines, solar power plants and other major infrastructure projects in the US and Latin America. Her experience includes advising clients on the structure of project development vehicles, and negotiating and drafting shareholders’, joint venture, joint development, public-private-partnerships, merger, acquisition, divestiture and services agreements, as well as preparing related corporate documents. She has also provided counsel to clients on engineering, procurement and construction agreements and operation and maintenance agreements, and questions concerning the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
