Squire Patton Boggs Advises on Sale of Magma Group to Unicat Catalyst Holdings

Squire Patton Boggs has acted for the shareholders on the sale of the entire issued share capital of Jemmtec Limited, trading as Magma Group, to Unicat Catalyst Holdings LLC, a portfolio company of private equity firm White Deer Energy.

The cross-border team advising Magma Group was led by Corporate partners Paul Mann and Danielle Asaad, and involved lawyers from the firm’s Leeds, London, Manchester, Cleveland and Columbus offices.

Founded in 2009 and based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, Magma is a leading global provider of specialist ceramics, innovative catalyst technology and related services. In the past five years, Magma has developed and commercialised catalyst manufacturing and product technology to lead the way in hydrogen and ammonia production. The company has four UK and one Vietnamese manufacturing facilities, along with a fully equipped catalyst research and development facility in the UK.

Founded in 2000 and located in Alvin, Texas, Unicat is a leading global provider of heterogeneous catalyst products and related services. In addition to its portfolio of more than 200 unique catalyst products, Unicat provides onsite technical support to assist its customers worldwide. In addition to its Alvin facility, the company maintains offices in South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Magma Group’s managing director Mark Stuckey will continue to oversee the enlarged business, which he has led and grown successfully since founding, and remains invested in and committed to its future success. Together, the combined businesses will offer vertically integrated global manufacturing and distribution of innovative catalyst and ceramics products and services for the refinery, syngas, chemical, steel, agriculture and green energy industries.
