Squire Patton Boggs Boosts National Tax Credit Finance Practice with Dallas Partner Hire

Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that Louis J. Jenull has joined the firm’s Tax Credit Finance & Community Development practice as partner in the Dallas office.

Thomas Kibbey, who leads the firm’s Tax Credit Finance & Community Development Practice Group said, “Louis brings a really diverse skill set spanning all aspects of tax credit specialties, which complements the range of expertise across our practice. His substantial experience will help bolster the geographical experience of the practice group and benefit our clients across the country.”

Mr. Jenull represents clients in most phases of federal income taxation with an emphasis on a range of tax credits, community development programs, ESG issues, real estate lending and development, oil and gas (including significant midstream and master limited partnership experience), low carbon programs and IRC Section 45Q, mergers and acquisitions and the structuring and formation of complex partnerships with tax-exempt, US taxable and foreign investor.

He has extensive experience in structuring various tax-advantaged investments for tax equity investors (and sometimes others), including structures for the monetization of tax credits (low-income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, energy and investment tax credits, refined coal tax credits and new markets tax credits with investments totaling approximately $3 billion) as well as a variety of structured finance transactions.

In the energy sector, Mr. Jenull focuses on oil and gas transactions, master limited partnerships (including formation, public debt and equity offerings, and operation), asset acquisitions and dispositions, services, pipelines, refineries and other downstream transactions, and joint ventures. He also actively advises clients in the renewable energy arena regarding the development of and investments in wind and solar power projects and low carbon/sequestration programs and tax credits.

Mr. Jenull is originally from Dallas and attended Southern Methodist University as an undergraduate. He is a graduate of Tulane University School of Law and New York University School of Law where he earned his LLM in taxation. Mr. Jenull also speaks and writes extensively on tax and tax credit topics and is recognized by The Legal 500 US for outstanding work.
